Not sure what this says about the person that wears it but it is pretty strange.
The answer to this question is not as easy as it may seem for even though Mumble is clearly a chicken, his behavior indicates that he thinks he is a penguin. Does thinking make it so? French philosopher, Rene Descartes, believed it did when he said, ‘I think, and therefore I am.’ But poor Mumble, what has caused his confusion?
Mumble exhibits penguin behavior; he waddles when he walks from side to side and he does not scratch the ground and roost on a perch at night as would any self-respecting chicken. His owner, farmer, Lu Xi, has had Mumble since he was as a mere chick.
“He only has little wings, just like a penguin, which he sticks out when he walks. I guess that’s why he never flies,” Lu Xi told the media.
It was actually the local media at Jiangsu Province, in eastern China that gave the confused chicken its ...
Sogen Kato was supposed to celebrate his 111th birthday on July 22nd, but it turns out he’s already dead.
Local officials with Tokyo’s centenarian ward had been trying relentlessly to contact Kato so they could update their records in preparation for Respect for the Elderly Day in September. However, his family continuously stonewalled them by ignoring questions and even chasing them off his property.
Tired of the silly games, the ward officials sought the assistance of local police officers, who decided to force their way into his home—on his birthday.
But instead of finding him poised over a big ol’ cake covered in candles galore, they found his mummified remains lying in a bed and covered with a blanket. And all he had on was some underwear and pajamas.
A post-mortem investigation revealed that Sato may have been dead for 30 or more years. And it turns out that his family tried to hide ...
The depiction of the human soul is not a task every artist can handle. For Zhang Huan, one of the most recognizable names in Chinese art and a man acclaimed for “getting naked in the name of art,” his attentions have turned to the exploration of the soul, a journey symbolized by the medium of incense ash.
A former performance artist, the 45-year-old is now fully clothed and his solo exhibition, which was two years in the making and named Free Tigers Return to Mountains, was featured until July 20th at the Pace Gallery in the 798 art district.
His latest sculptures are made from cowhide and the paintings, which depict dozens of tigers, all incorporate incense ash gathered from different temples.
“The ash contains a magical strength to comfort the soul… The ash is a unique material to me. It holds and reflects people’s hopes and wishes because people in China usually ...
Japanese officials have made a six million dollar bid for the 22nd edition of the World Cup (2022) that proposes the actual tournament be broadcast all across the world via real-time holographic technology.
The initiative, known as Universal Fan Fest, will allow some 360 million people from 208 countries to watch a live 3-D feed of the games.
Though it sounds quite far-fetched for the early 21st century, the idea is to simultaneously capture all World Cup action via 200 high-definition cameras placed in a 360-degree circle around the stadium—and then transmit it in real-time to approximately 400 stadiums all across the world.
This means you would potentially be able to watch each match live right from your local, hometown stadium.
Not only is this proposal quite thrilling albeit a tad futuristic, it’s also green in that a portion of the energy required to operate all the required equipment would somehow come from the ...
Japan is a nation just as obsessed with subcultures as any other, bursting with creative inquiry and the need for personal and artistic expression. Hence, the Big Scooter phenomenon, transforming the concept of customization and pushing the glittery envelope beyond expected borders and further than ever before.
The bosozuku bike gangs (literally “violent running tribes”) have a reputation for reckless speeding and creating noisy havoc along Tokyo’s highways, although in recent years they transferred their colorful noise to Okinawa. The original gangs were known as Lightning Tribes (kaminari-zoku) and are associated more with the 1950s when the Japanese auto industry was a burgeoning empire.
Today these Japanese Big Scooter groups are pussycats; involved only in their scooters and how they can make them look better and increase their speed and endurance by using lightweight parts.
They are an obsessed lot and into social networking. They even have their own Mixi group (the Japanese ...
ApriPoko may weigh a mere five pounds, but this voice-operated, talking robot functions as a universal remote for multiple home appliances and devices. Its creators, the researchers at Toshiba, exemplify Japan’s obsession for all things robotic, but ApriPoko has gone even one mechanical step further than other robots have gone before.
ApriPoko actually observes human behavior and asks questions in order to learn how to operate various remote controls.
ApriPoko has a memory triggered by sensors that are able to detect infrared rays emanating from the remote. Every time a human presses any button at all, it will ask from a chest-mounted speaker: “What did you just do?”
By answering the dear little devil, for example, “I just changed the channel on the television, this information is then committed to memory. The next time a user desires to change a channel, by simply telling ApriPoko, the appropriate IR signal is transmitted directly to ...
Do you hate mosquitoes? I sure do. But neither you nor I probably hate them as much as Taiwanese news anchor Huang Ching, who almost died when one got caught in her mouth.
Ms. Ching was reporting a news story for China Television Co. when a surreptitious mosquito climbed into her mouth. Instead of bursting into tears or throwing a fit, the professional anchorwoman continued undeterred, though a few tears could be spotted in her eyes.
“It wouldn’t have been polite to spit it out on camera,” she said.
Unfortunately, the mosquito dug deep into her windpipe, thereby setting off a really bad asthma attack that almost caused her to choke to death. A four-minute advertisement then aired, during which time she was replaced with a different anchor.
Ching was then rushed to a hospital, where she spent several days under observation.
Her thoughts on the ordeal?
“I never expected a mosquito to have such great ...
