Samsung Galaxy Tab Tablet Launches Sept. 2nd

Yesterday, we reported that the Samsung Galaxy Tab was spotted in a train station in Sydney, Australia. 24 hours ago, a launch date was not known, but it was expected that the Android tablet could be in final testing which would mean that a launch would be imminent. That was yesterday. Today, Samsung has officially confirmed that the Android tablet will debut on September 2nd at the IFA event in Berlin. There’s even a teaser video of this 7-inch tablet that will come with Android 2.2 (FroYo) and feature video conference calling. Looks interesting, but with only a 7-inch screen size, will it have what it takes to compete with the 9.8-inch iPad and the assorted 10.1-inch Android tablets that are available? Via: I4U

New Toshiba 3D TV Requires No Glasses

Toshiba is preparing a new lineup of 3D television sets that will launch in Japan before the end of 2010. This new TV will eliminate the requirement for 3D glasses through the use of autostereoscopy 3D technology. According to Yuko Sugahara, one of the biggest drawbacks to 3D TVs are the 3D glasses themselves. Most people hate to wear them, especially when sitting at home watching a 3D movie. This is further compounded if the viewer wears glasses himself and must fit the 3D glasses over his own reading glasses. Eliminating the requirement for these special glasses will hopefully allow the technology to be better adopted within the home. 3D technology is here to stay, it’s just going to take some time for it to get a foothold. James Cameron, the director of the Titanic and Avatar believes that 3D is “not something that is going ...

Dell Aero Android Phone Goes On Sale

If you are looking for a cheap Android phone and aren’t to concerned about an outdated OS version, the Dell Aero might be something to consider. Today is when AT&T will begin carrying the Dell smartphone which will sell for $99 through the US mobile carrier. The Dell phone won’t in any way affect iPhone sales as this smartphone ships with the antiquated Android 1.5. We first heard about the Dell Aero back in March of this year and at that time, there were some notable features worth mentioning. First is the fact that this smartphone is relatively light, weighing in at 3.7 ounces. The handset also comes with a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, a 5MP camera, and a 624Mhz CPU, which does account for the low price of this phone. What the Aero has going for it is affordability. At $99 with contract or $299 ...

Apple Readying 99 Cent TV Show Rentals

Apple TV or iTV has been in the news quite a bit lately with the latest report being that Apple is negotiating contracts that will allow consumers to rent television shows through iTunes. According to Bloomberg, those in the know are convinced that 99-cent TV show rentals are being discussed between executives at both Apple Inc. and News Corp. It’s believed that should this feature come through, consumers will be able to rent a show for a period of 48 hours before they lose access. If this concept sounds familiar, it may be because Apple has a similar process in place for movie rentals through iTunes which are scheduled to expire after an alloted period of time. Apple is also diversifying their programming options as the company is believed to be holding discussions with both CBS and Walt Disney, the latter company being where Steve Jobs is not ...

New World Record For Texting Set

We’ve seen a few debates on what is the fastest text input method on a smartphone and to answer the question, at least for that one day, a video was released that compared SWYPE with QWERTY. Of course, that YouTube video didn’t really resolve this question. In March of this year, the Guiness Book of World Records got involved and included a new entry for the fastest touchscreen texter. At that time, the record belonged to Franklin Page, who in 35.54 seconds was able to type out the following sentence: The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human It’s worth mentioning that Page is a Swype employee. Page held the crown for a period of just 5 months before being dethroned by Melissa Thompson, a 27-year old who was able to shed 9.6 ...

Acer Chrome OS Netbook Details Leaked In Error

It’s well known that several manufacturers are currently developing netbook computers that will have Google Chrome OS as the operating system of choice. Acer is one of these hardware companies and in an accidental information leak, some details of the new Acer netbook have been revealed. Apparently, someone was filling out some Google Chrome and Linux bug reports that were related to an unannounced Acer laptop. By following the paper trail, Macles identified this computer as having an Intel Atom N455 1.66GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB SanDisk pSSD, an ambient light detector, WiFi and Bluetooth support. The paper trails only sheds some light on the hardware components of the Acer Chrome OS netbook, but it doesn’t offer any clues on a possible price or release date. Macles does speculate that the release date will be fairly soon considering how far the testing has progressed. Via: Liliputing

Digg Founder Has Apple iTV Scoop

Take it for what its worth, but Kevin Rose, Digg’s founder has thrown his two bits in regarding Apple (AAPL) TV which has been rebranded to iTV. According to Rose, iTV will not just be a small set top box that is powered by the iOS operating system, but it will also use iAds as a method for content providers to monetize their television shows. In addition to this, Rose believes that the iPad, Apple’s tablet computer will have a very special role as a “badass remote control” when iTV comes out. Not only will the iPad function as a basic remote control that will allow users to change channels, play games and edit videos, but it will be intimately connected with the iTV interactive experience, thereby allowing couch potatoes to view different camera angles of a particular scene or shot. Like other Apple products, iTV will have ...
